OSTEOPATHY
DR BROOKE STARLING
Osteopathy recognises the vital connection between the structure and function of the body, and it adopts a ‘hands on’ approach towards healthcare. It focuses on how your skeleton, joints, muscles, connective tissue, nerves, circulation and organs function as a holistic unit, and it can be used to treat a very broad range of complaints.
Treatment focuses on the musculoskeletal system. Osteopathic treatment assists the body by providing increased mobility and correcting functional dysfunctions, allowing the body the opportunity to heal itself and aiming to prevent the problem from recurring.
In Australia, Osteopaths are University trained in anatomy, physiology, pathology, general medical diagnosis and Osteopathic techniques. Osteopaths are primary healthcare practitioners and are trained to recognise conditions which require medical referral. They are also trained to perform standard medical examinations of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems.
An Osteopathic consultation involves an examination and clinical tests, including diagnostic, orthopaedic or neurological tests, postural assessments and activities or exercises, which will help determine how best to manage your condition.
Osteopathy is a gentle and effective modality to treat people of all ages, including pregnant women and babies. You can book appointments directly; no referral is needed.
Bring along any X-rays, scans or test results that you may have, and wear comfortable clothing. Your initial consultation may last up to one hour. This will enable your Osteopath to take a thorough history, examine and depending upon your condition, treat you.
